I watched Aphrodite Jones’ True Crime on Investigation Discovery tonight. The episode was about the Zodiac Killer, a crime I have studied for quite some time now. Jones’ guests on the show were Dennis Kaufman and Nanette Barto, who claim that the Zodiac was Jack Tarrance –Kaufman’s stepfather. I think Ms. Jones coverage of the case was compelling. I think the Zodiac case deserves some serious attention and I believe that is the same goal Jones had in mind with this episode. Aphrodite Jones is good at what she does and, while I do not agree with her on many topics, I believe she is truly sincere. The episode is very well produced. It is very convincing –Aphrodite does her job well. However, I have some serious problems with the theory embraced on this episode.

The host of Investigation Discovery’s New show “True Crime” is journalist and author Aphrodite Jones. Jones is author of the controversial bestseller “Michael Jackson Conspiracy.” Two of Jones’ books were made into Lifetime TV movies, and her account of Brandon Teena, “All She Wanted,” was the inspiration for the critically acclaimed feature film “Boys Don’t Cry.”

Dr. Stephen Dewhurst decided to share a few words with the members and readers of Dennis Kaufman’s message board. It was rather obvious that some of his comments were directed to me and this blog. I have extracted the relevant passages from his rather lengthy diatribe, and placed them here. Of course, had Dr. Dewhurst addressed this blog personally, Dennis would have come him out of the loop and thus made his access to the FBI’s investigation a little more difficult. However, I want to be sure that the other side of the story is heard, as well as mine. I am not one of those that “shouts down” the opposition, On the contrary, I have given every opportunity for the other side to present their case.

In Part One, we told you the real story about a photo that Dennis Kaufman tried to convince the media was of a murdered man. It wasn’t an unidentified murder victim, it was the boyfriend of Dennis Kaufman’s own sister. This is the type of thing we have been dealing with ever since Dennis started accusing his stepfather of being the Zodiac –somewhere around nine years ago.
