Sex Offenders Hate CSN Smackdown
Sex offenders like to use sites like Facebook and MySpace. Since the CSN Smackdown program has come to their attention, they are angry. They don't want to be limited in their means of contact. Certain sex offender advocacy groups have started retaliating against CrimeShadows News. They call me, the site's webmaster, a "vigilante" and a "stalker." Much like anyone who wants to paint themselves as victims resorts to calling their opposition "Nazis," these groups place our website in the same league as those who commit violence, arson, or make threats against people.
CrimeShadows News has always sought to do what we do legally, by using tools readily available to the law-abiding public. I have never called for anyone to cause bodily harm to a sex offender or their property in any way. I see no reason to combat criminal activity by becoming a criminal. Besides, these offenders just aren't worth it. Our program simply asks citizens who know of a sex offender profile on a social networking site to report it to that site's administration so that it can be removed according to policy for the safety of their users. I actively compare sex offender registries with social networking profiles to make sure that offenders do not engage in social activity where they are not permitted by site policy and/or the conditions of their release. This is perfectly legal and does not require "stalking" or vigilantism." In fact, unless I am contacted by the sex offenders themselves, I have no contact with them whatsoever. I do not threaten them. I do not harass them. I do not harm them. I do not frighten or intimidate them. I do not molest them. I do not assault them. I do not batter them. I do not harm their property. I do not set fire to their homes or businesses. I do not encourage anyone to do anything of that sort. I do not believe in "taking the law into your own hands." These are criminal acts and my website is targeted to law-abiding citizens. On the contrary, a reasonable person will note that it is the sex offenders that cause harm by doing the very things they accuse this site of.
When I see a sex offender "breaking the rules" I am going to alert my readers. The First Amendment provides that right. If a sex offender does not want an article written about them and their use of certain social networking sites then the solution is quite simple: Don't sign up at sites where sex offenders are not allowed. Make sure that your profile has been deleted from these types of sites. It's rather elementary. If you are going about your business, not breaking any rules or laws, then I have no interest in you. On the other hand, when you are somewhere you shouldn't be –somewhere you are prohibited from being– I am not going to keep that knowledge to myself. I don't have to.
These groups of advocates for sex offenders have a few things in common. They consist mostly of sex offenders and their families and friends. Their members hate that the public knows who and what they are. They want their crimes to remain a secret, like in the old days. They don't want you to have the knowledge to protect yourself from them. They blame YOU and the LAWS for their embarrassment at being on a sex offender registry. They do not accept the fact that all they had to do to stay off such a list was never to cause harm to another person.
Below is a quote from the YouTube page of a user who goes by the name of RSOVigilantism. This person is the webmaster of a site called "Sex Offender Issues." It is plain to see what their agenda is, despite the rhetoric they use to defend it:
"These videos prove the registry is punishment and that it should be taken offline and used by police only, like it was originally. The public has proven time and time again, that they cannot handle the registry info without assuming all are child molesting pedophiles and taking the law into their own hands."
Did you read that? YOU cannot handle the registry. The sex offenders know better than you how they should be dealt with. If they had their way, no one would know who they are. No one would know what they did. And "police only," is an antiquated notion that leaves families without the valuable knowledge they need about those around them. These groups try to use a few isolated and scattered acts of violence against their kind to justify the secrecy of a magnanimous population of sex offenders. The majority of people don't go around trying to harm sex offenders. We really don't want to come in contact with them at all. We use the information on these registries to ensure the safety of our friends and family. When the system lets these offenders out to re-offend –the least they can do is let us know who they are, where they are, and what the hell they did to get on such a list.
Note: Since this post was first published, the webmaster of Sex Offender Issues (who, as I had guessed, is a registered sex offender) has taken measures to block the links to his site from this post. Maybe he doesn't want you to see his perverted logic in his own words on his own turf. His response to my "generosity," despite all of his Christian iconography and his professed belief in "Our Lord and Savior," was to redirect all links from this website to a page that instructed the viewer to "Go F___ Yourself!" He also took great pains to block other referrals from other sites, including those of my fellow true crime bloggers. A look at the source code reveals his list of blocked referrals. Anyway, if you have the urge to read his demented drivel, you'll have to cut and paste the link to his site to get there from here.
These sex offender advocates despise such legislation as Megan's Law, the Adam Walsh Act, and the Jessica Lunsford Act. Here is another quote from the advocate at Sex Offender Issues:
Children are good ploys to get votes and that is why you always hear of someone passing a law in a child’ name. They know if a child’ name is attached to it, nobody will vote against it.
If we left it up to the sex offenders, it would be OK for them to harm children and then go on to live in secrecy, but it is wrong for us to stop such horrible crimes from happening again by remembering who the crimes were committed against. Lewd logic, in my opinion. Perverted thinking –but, what would you expect?

One of the groups supporters, a user with the name "rodsmith," had this to say in response to the video, "i wish a few of them would stalk me. i could rid the world of a few hate filled nazi wannabees." Who is making the threats?
You'll notice above the video linked to here, there is a link to view my website anonymously using a site called anonymouse.org. I received an email through my sites contact form from someone using an address (jomamasfriend@nyms.net) originating from that site's IP. The person used an anonymous email address in an effort to trick me. I guess this person thinks there is some sort of hack or special tools involved in locating sex offenders on social networking sites. The reality is, it is much too simple and no special skills are necessary. You can read the message below:

Here is the video. I really have no problem with it. Even though it does contain slander against me and this site. It is not my intention to harass or harm anyone –and I have not done so. However, they need all the help they can get to convince people that registries are a bigger danger than the offenders that are listed on them. They're lowlife sex offenders –so I don't expect much in the way ot Truth from them. The video shows pages from CrimeShadows News with the words "sex offender" highlighted. Links to my sites are blacked-out, even though they are showing the pages from my site. Of course, the video contains no stalking, threats, or anything of the sort coming from this site or from myself. That is something the video's maker wants you to imagine. Its propoganda designed to get you to feel sorry for sex offenders. The video's soundtrack is When You're Evil by Voltaire. That's about it -the song playing over censored pages from my site.
Is it working? Are you ready to take those registries down and leave these people to their own devices?
