On January 1, 2010 at approximately 2:30 PM a father and his two children went to the AMC Loews at the Palisades Center Mall, West Nyack, New York. The plan was to to see Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel in the mall's fourth floor theater. The man's seven year-old daughter needed to use the restroom before the show. She went into the public restroom –the ladies room, while her dad and her brother waited close by in the food court area. A seven-year-old girl should be safe in the ladies room, shouldn't she? I mean, it wouldn't be proper to bring her into the men's room, after all. But, no one expected that a man (image, left) would enter the women's restroom. However, that horror is exactly what occurred.
The little girl came out of the bathroom and told her father what had just happened. A grown man had entered the stall the little girl was trying to use. He sexually abused the child by touching her. How frightened the child must have been while the strange man attacked her. Surveillance video shows that the man entered the restroom just before the girl –and that several people may have seen this happen! One of those person is being sought. A woman who may have observed the incident may hold the key to finding the predator that harmed this child. Investigators say that she was not involved in the attack, but may be a valuable witness.
Police believe the predator may have spoken to another child near the theater just before the attack. In fact, investigators believe that it was the man's intent to actually kidnap a child from the mall. Two hours before the attack in the bathroom, the man was in Aeropostale for Kids, where he purchased a small red blouse that would fit a young girl seven to eight years old. He also bought three hair scrunchies.
Police are seeking the man who attacked this child. His image has been captured on video.
Suspect Description:
White Male, Medium Complexion
Age: in his forties
Height: 5'7 – 5'8"
Stocky Build, Short to medium length hair.
Clothing: a black puffy jacket, charcoal sweatshirt, orange sweatpants, glasses with black frames, and what appeared to be high black boots with the pants tucked in.
Police have also released pictures of the woman who may have seen the attack, or events surrounding it. She was wearing a red sweater or blouse. She was standing in front of the ladies room near the time of the attack.
