New Year, New Hope, and a Few Recommendations

As 2010 begins, I'd like to wish each and everyone of you the best in the year to come. I hope this year brings answers to those who have waited so long to hear them. There are many unsolved homicides that need the attention of law enforcement and the major media. Sometimes, that means we need to get your attention first. There are many missing people out there whose families and friends are waiting for answers to the fate of their loved ones. Maybe you can help provide some of those answers. There are predators who continue to prey on the innocent –especially our children. You can help identify them and stop them in their tracks. CrimeShadows News will continue to bring some of these stories to you in the hopes that your awareness and concern will work proactively in seeking Justice.

There are other like-minded bloggers out there who share the same goal. Please check out the blogs in the Coalition of Crime Bloggers Blogroll, on the sidebar to the right. There you will find blogs written by real people who care about Justice just as much as you and I. Some of the writers have been around a long time. Some of them are new to the world of True Crime blogging. All of them are worthy of your attention. So, take a look. No one site can cover all of the crime out there. No one site can provide help for the families of those who desperately need to get the word out about their loved ones. Together, in our own unique and individual styles, a difference can be made.

I know there are many that don't understand what we do. Some think we write to glorify crime. They are mistaken. Some think that we are obsessed with the morbid and grotesque. They do not understand what we do because they haven't really taken the time to actually read an article or a blog post. There are those who think we profit from the misfortune of others. I can assure you that most of us do the best we can to afford to keep these sites running. This is not an occupation. One will not get rich writing about true crime. In fact, it can sometimes be a costly endeavor. Our reward comes from hearing from those who appreciate what we do. For most of us, writing about crime is a labor of love. We write out of the frustration that comes from years of seeing cases unsolved, years of seeing these tragic situations receive little or no media attention, and the years of of seeing the same predators continue to hunt victims –even though their criminal inclinations are no secret to those who have the power to stop them. We write because it is our way of scratching the surface. We hope you read for the same reasons.

Finally, I'd like to to bring to your attention a few bloggers that I think you should pay attention to this year. Please note: This is just a sampling. There are many more great blogs out there, and I can't name them all in this post. These are a but a few of my favorite writers, and I'm sure you will like their sites as much as I do.

First of all, I'd like to point you to the sites of Trench Reynolds. Reynolds' blogs have been a staple of the true crime category for a long while. Take a look at CrimeNe.ws and Parents Behaving Badly. Trench exposes the criminals that prey on sites like Craigslist, Facebook and MySpace.com. He also sheds light on the cruelty and abuse that many children endure at the hands of so-called parents. Reynolds has operated several blogs over the years. A list of those blogs can be found here.

Next is Lost in Lima Ohio, a site operated by Lilo. Lilo has also been involved in true crime blogging longer than most. She says what she thinks and doesn't back down under pressure –a very necessary trait when writing about certain shady individuals. She recently took a bit of a well-deserved break from writing –but, I am happy to announce that she is once again back in action. Be sure to visit Lost in Lima Ohio.

Lilo introduced me to Red-Alerts.com and I became an instant fan. Rob Taylor combines a blend of conservative politics and true crime topics to form one of the most interesting and engaging blogs out there.

I'd also like to introduce you to a new blog, though the author is not exactly new to true crime. Captain Obvious Crime Blog is a true crime blog dedicated to exposing the thugs, perverts, and low-lifes that haunt law-abiding citizens on a daily basis.

Last, but certainly not least, is Crime, Interrupted. This blog focuses on crime happening in the Four Corners states: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. I can guarantee you there is no shortage of crime in these areas and Tami presents many of those cases right there on her blog.

Thank you for visiting CrimeShadows News and the sites of our friends and colleagues. I hope you continue to visit this site. As always, your comments and feedback are most welcome. I hope you have a fantastic new year. Stay safe, and remember: Knowledge is Power against Crime.

Sincerely,

–Chris
