Donny Therrien was having some trouble with his computer. Perhaps it was too slow when he tried to download child porn. Maybe it was full of viruses from visiting illegal websites. Maybe the pop-ups were prohibiting his digital proclivities. At any rate, Therrien decided the computer needed professional attention so he took it to a repair shop to be fixed. The diagnosing technicians found more than just malware on Therrien's computer.
On December 29, 2009, 24-year-old Donny Therrien of Winooski, Vermont was indicted for possession of child pornography by a federal grand jury. The indictment specified that Therrien had child pornography on his PC on November 10 –a discovery made by the repair shop that discovered the images. This wasn't Therrien's first arrest for such a crime. Since he has a previous conviction of child pornography, he faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and up to a twenty year maximum sentence. Therrien wrote on his MySpace page that he was interested in "being with family, meeting new people," and "being free." If he's found guilty, he can meet new people in prison, where his family can visit him. The "being free" thing may have to wait.
Therrien was recently released from the federal prison system. He was let out last August after serving a 5-year sentence for stealing a bunch of guns from a gun shop in 2005. He was arrested on December 9 for violating conditions of his release supervision.
