The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has obtained still photographs of surveillance video from the Sheridan Road Wal-Mart in Lawton, Oklahoma. The photos, taken at approximately 5:15 PM, show Lester Hobbs and his estranged wife, Tonya Leann Hobbs, who was murdered only a few hours after the video was captured. Lester Hobbs beat Tonya to death inside his RV in Geronimo, Oklahoma. He is now a fugitive from justice, having been charged with murder. As if things couldn’t be worse, Hobbs also abducted Tonya’s seven-year-old daughter, Aja Johnson. Hobbs is not the girl’s father. Tonya Hobbs’ car is also shown in the photos.
The Virginia State Police has jurisdiction over four of the homicides referred to as the Colonial Parkway murders. The agency has vowed to submit the evidence they have, now some 20 years old, to new technology.
An Amber Alert was issued Sunday for Aja Johnson (Some agencies are reporting her name as “Jotson.”)
Aja was supposedly kidnapped before 9:00 PM yesterday (January 24) by Lester Hobbs. Hobbs is also a suspect in the murder of the child’s mother, his estranged wife in Geronimo, Oklahoma. 37-year-old Tonya Hobbs was killed shortly before the abduction. Hobbs is not the child’s father.
Police found more than 5,000 images of child pornography on Brian Kane’s computer. Kane had also been sending message via MySpace to a 14-year-old girl. Kane used the name “Piano Man.” The profile has recently been deleted. Investigators said that Kane was “grooming” the child for future predatory behavior. Kane admits that he had sexual thoughts about the child.
It looks like the Virginia State Police is going to step up and renew their investigation into four of the Colonial Parkway murders within their jurisdiction. This action is prompted from the FBI’s recent vow to examine the evidence from the murders with the new and improved technology that is now available. Only time will tell if the investigations will resolve any of the many questions that have haunted the friends and families of those killed in the 1980s attacks. One thing is for certain: those answers won’t come by doing nothing.
