24-year-old Christopher Lance Helmlinger was last seen on September 27. That Sunday, after attending church, he had left his mother's home in Berryville, Arkansas to walk to his grandmother's home south of town, where he was living. He never showed up at his destination. His mother reported him missing a week later on October 4.
According to family members, it wasn't out of the ordinary not to hear from Helmlinger for a few days. When the days turned to weeks, however, they knew something was wrong. The only news they heard of Chris was that he had been seen in town accompanied by a woman with blond hair.
The body of Chris Helmlinger was found Sunday, October 18, near Glen Echoes, a Berryville trailer park. Authorities believe that Helmlinger's death was no accident.
Residents had came across some freshly dug earth and a shovel in a nearby wooded area. Thinking someone may have buried some money or something else of value, they began to dig. As they removed the earth, the fabric of blue jeans began to appear –and the person that wore them. The body was identified later as Chris Helmlinger. A cause of death has not been released.
Now, many questions remain unanswered: Who did this horrible thing? Why would they harm this young man?
