Jerrold Ecklind Arrested in Hillsborough County
Remember Dr. Jerrold Ecklind? He's the Ormond Beach, Florida guy that brandished a firearm at a man while taking off with a woman in handcuffs. Not content with that trouble, he was later arrested in a drugged-up state, guns in tow, controlled substances hidden in a flashlight, and boots on the wrong feet. He got off pretty easy –being a doctor and all, sometimes that's the way it works out. At any rate, Ecklind found it a good idea to leave Volusia County and the Daytona Beach area.
His medical license was suspended a year ago today. The psychiatrist assigned to Ecklind's case decided that Ecklind really shouldn't be in a job where he had access to drugs, especially since he has been known to abuse them. That trait, combined with Ecklind's love of firearms made Ecklind to dangerous to be a doctor, but "safe" enough to be released back on the streets on probation. So far, it appears as if Ecklind has been behaving himself at his new home in Hillsborough County. But, that doesn't mean his troubles have left him alone.
The above incidents occurred in 2008. We haven't heard much of Ecklind since –but, there is a bit of news:
A visitor to CrimeShadows News wrote in asking about an update. It seems that Ecklind had been arrested again for brandishing a gun. I hadn't heard about the incident, even though I keep up with the news in that area fairly well. At first, I thought perhaps the visitor may have been confused and was referring to the incidents of last year. But, I did a little searching and found that Ecklind had indeed been arrested recently.
Jerrold Ecklind was arrested on October 14, 2009. The charge was improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon or firearm. However, I don't think this was a new incident. Ecklind was arrested in his home and held in the Hillsborough County jail for two days before being released on October 16. He was being held on a Volusia County warrant. Volusia County isn't holding him. I'm guessing that this was just some sort of bureaucratic error. If anyone knows the story behind this arrest, I'd be glad to hear from you. Until then, it looks like Mr. Ecklind, despite being arrested and jailed, is staying out of trouble (as far as I can tell) –something we can all be happy about.
