Dennis Kaufman’s Photo Chicanery – Part Two
If you haven’t already, you might want to read Dennis Kaufman’s Photo Chicanery – Part One before reading the following post. You don’t have to, though.
In Part One, we told you the real story about a photo that Dennis Kaufman tried to convince the media was of a murdered man. It wasn’t an unidentified murder victim, it was the boyfriend of Dennis Kaufman’s own sister. This is the type of thing we have been dealing with ever since Dennis started accusing his stepfather of being the Zodiac –somewhere around nine years ago.
Before we get started here, please remember that the photo of the dead man has been identified as Noel Shaw. He was not murdered. He fell from a bridge. His photograph wasn’t even found among the following photographs. The photographs below were shown on CBS13 along with the photo of Noel Shaw, which was graphic. Remove that photo from the rest, and what remains are a few mundane, blurry photographs depicting pretty much whatever your imagination allows.
In this post, we continue with Part Two of Dennis Kaufman’s Photo Chicanery. We’ll be taking a look at some of those other photographs that Dennis and his camp are trying to add mystery to. They have implied to CBS13 that the images are snuff photos taken by Jack Tarrance. Of course, after the truth is coming out, tracks are being covered. Nanette Barto, once alienated from Dennis Kaufman, is now being welcomed back into the fold. She is the forensic document examiner whose claims of document alterations have been debunked.
Barto says of these photos:
(sic) "these pictures of the so called snuff films by this board was released to CBS13 news and Kris Pickel as items found in Jack’s possessions. No claims of them being actual victims of Jack’s, just a probability considering the evidence."
But, Dennis Kaufman himself says this of Jack’s photos:
"Steve Dewhurst the man who developed the film has made a possible identification to one of the victims in the photo’s, her name is Rose Cole. Rose was from Oakland California and she went missing in 1973. These photo’s were taken around 1973 so this may help narrow the search down for some of these victims."
CBS13′s Kris Pickel says:
"Dewhurst says the pictures are graphic, but the film is deteriorated and many images appear to be a haze of colors. The first picture on the roll is the clearest: A stained baseball cap near what could be blood spatter."

Here we see a photo of a baseball-type cap. Unless your a maître d’ in one of the nicer restaurants, there’s nothing gruesome about this item at all. It’s just a cap. But wait! There’s a patchy area in this photograph. It just has to be blood. That is the most likely explanation. After all, it was found in Jack Tarrance’s stuff and everyone who’s anyone knows that he’s the real Zodiac Killer. At least, that’s what the Kaufman camp wants us to believe. If the photo was found in anyone else’s cigar box there might be a more logical explanation: That shady area could be a shadow. Maybe sunlight cast the silhouette of a palm tree or a shrub onto the pavement. It might be water from a hose. Maybe someone even used the hose to wash the cap (wash the blood off, you mean). This is the clearest image of the bunch, and the details aren’t really plain –certainly not plain enough for these morbid suspicions. For a logically-minded person to suggest that the spot in the photo is a possible blood stain is really exaggerating a bit, isn’t it? The photo isn’t even displayed in a natural hue or color.
Next, we come to an image alleged by Dr. Stephen Dewhurst to be an image of a young girl after she was murdered. Let’s take a look:

Well, maybe Dr. Dewhurst has better image than what was shown by CBS13. The image we’re looking at is certainly subject to interpretation. It is kind of creepy looking… but, you can’t really make much out of it without using your imagination. There might be a face there… A dead face? I don’t see how anyone could jump to that conclusion. It’s a bad photo. Imagine what one would say if this photo was the subject of a paranormal forum. Perhaps they would say it’s a ghost, or something. The imagination says a heck of a lot more than this photo does. Moving on…

Dr. Dewhurst says this photo is of a girl laying on the ground with her arms bound above her head. Sometimes, when I look at the clouds, I see elephants or horses. I’m not much of a cloud gazer, though. I do like to work with images, and I often do when preparing graphics for this site. Below is this same image enhanced. Notice the circled area. Below the supposed image of "the woman" is what looks like a boy.

In fact, the boy in the above photo might even be the same kid in this photo:

But, these can’t simply be innocent pictures of children –can they? They must be something more horrible. What is that boy smiling about? He has a lot of nerve, considering that Jack Tarrance plans to strangle him. Believe me, I’m not laughing. I think this whole business of Kaufman’s is disgraceful. How about you? Are you beginning to see how bogus these so-called "murder" pics may really be?
Now to our next photo. Dewhurst believes this picture shows a girl who went missing from San Francisco in the 1970s. He says she was still alive in this photo.

O.K. Not much to see here. Let’s enhance it a little.

Now, we can see something. It does look like a woman, doesn’t it. But, even though the rest of the photos look like they were taken in the 1980s or maybe even the 1990s, this is supposed to be a woman that went missing in the 1970s. And what is that big thing curved toward her head –the Loch Ness monster? It kind of looks like it. They can’t find that thing, either. It must be it.
Let’s close in on that woman so we can see who she looks like.

I don’t who she is, but I’d recognize her anywhere. Seriously, how can a positive identification be made of anyone from such a blur. If this were a live person that looked like that, you’d need forensics. It’s not. It’s a crappy photo from a bad roll of film. It should be taking up space in some junk drawer somewhere. There is really nothing about these photos that is the least bit nefarious except the manner in which they are being used by Dennis Kaufman.
The images are open to interpretation. Wide open. Could they be murder photos? Sure? But, is it likely? They could be many other things. There’s an element of hysteria involved with these photos. They were found among Jack Tarrance’s things. Dennis Kaufman claims that Tarrance was the Zodiac Killer. He can’t prove it, though. He’s been trying for nine years. His latest claim of DNA was bogus. The DNA was never matched to Zodiac letters as he had many of his followers believing. The DNA that did match something didn’t match Jack Tarrance. The something the DNA matched, a hood, was not the hood used in the Zodiac murders. Kaufman also said that Tarrance was the Phantom Killer of Texarkana. Here again, no proof. He said that Jack Tarrance killed his (Kaufman’s) mother. The death certificate doesn’t say that. no one in law enforcement ever said that. Just like most everything else, the only claims that tie Tarrance to the murders come from Dennis Kaufman and his cronies. Those claims continue to be proven worthless.
It’s time for Dennis Kaufman to admit that Jack Tarrance is not the Zodiac Killer. It’s time to stop stretching the truth to fit his story. It’s time for the press to stop giving him the time of day.
