At approximately 10:54 AM Friday, June 12, 2009, the Garfield County, Colorado Communications Center received a report of human remains found by a teenage boy who was clearing trash in the area. The body was located on private property on County Road 137 (Canyon Creek Road). The Colorado Bureau of Investigation, along with other local agencies, is assisting the investigation. The remains have not been positively identified.
The discovery is being treated as a suspected homicide. Unofficial reports were that the remains belong to a young girl. Those reports have been confirmed to be false by authorities.
The body is that of a caucasian female, about 20 to 35 years of age. The woman had extensive dental work and several tattoos. Her hair was brown with blonde highlights. All of her remains have not been recovered. The body appears to have been dismembered. Witnesses said the the body was wrapped in a bag and that the bag was deteriorating, suggesting that the body may have been dumped much earlier than when it was discovered. Authorities believe that the woman may have been killed at a location other than where she was found.
As of yet, there are no suspects and no one has been arrested.
