Christopher Kryger Was On Parole

Christopher D. Kryger was sentenced for aggravated assault in the early 1990s. Recently, he somehow fooled the authorities into thinking he would be a good candidate for parole. I’m not saying he’s some sort of genius. It’s been proven many times that you don’t have to be all that smart to walk out of prison. Since Kryger was on parole, it’s a good bet that he hadn’t served all of his original sentence. Anyone who reads the news knows that earning parole can sometimes be a rather simple task, even for a violent offender.

The chances for getting out on parole after committing a violent offense are certainly greater than winning the lottery, which doesn’t seem to be that rare these days. Sure, they may keep most of these guys locked up. It’s these few they let out to "ease  overcrowding" or "give a second chance" that seem to paint the ugly face on parole. If they’re behavior is so damned good, why were they locked up in the first place? Forget about the juries that recommended jail time or the victims of these thugs. Forget even more about the potential victims that are put at risk when these guys walk.. The chances of being victimized by one of these fortunate freaks don’t seem to be all that rare, either. Some of these guys don’t waste much time once they’ve gained freedom. When Kryger was arrested yesterday, his address was still listed as the state penitentiary in South Dakota.

So, what did this parole-worthy individual do to show that he was worthy of his release? He kicked in the door of a home in the 600 block of West Bennett Street in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The door was locked, not that it mattered. The apartment belonged to someone that Kryger didn’t even know. Once he gained access to the residence he assaulted the female occupant both physically and sexually.

Luckily, the woman’s brothers interrupted his attack. Otherwise, who knows what this cowardly convict may have done. The woman was already unconscious from the attack. Kryger injured one of the brothers as they chased him out of the apartment. They were finally able to capture him. Officers dispatched to the scene found that the woman was not breathing. They were able to resuscitate her. She was taken to the hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Kryger has been charged with felony second-degree rape, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and first-degree burglary.  He also faces a charge of misdemeanor simple assault. Hopefully, those in charge will keep him locked up for a while before they let him loose on the public again.
