Yesterday morning (November 22), neighbors awoke to find a trail of blood on their street in Pecan Grove, Texas. The trail led to a manhole cover, then down and into a culvert. There, the savagely slain figure of 25 year-old Melissa Barajas was discovered. Whoever had put Melissa Barajas down in that hole had put the manhole cover back into place. The other end of the trail would lead investigators to the person who had tried to hide her there that morning.
Police would find 21 year-old Steven Anthony Oliver in the 1300 block of Roundstone, not far from where Barajas body was found on Quarterpath Drive. The blood of Melissa Barajas led police right to him. Oliver lived there with his parents. Police would soon find a large kitchen knife used to repeatedly stab Melissa Barajas in the neck and upper torso. They would find the bloody clothes that Oliver wore as he dragged her lifeless frame into that murky void. They would encounter the craven killer, too cowardly to own up to his dreadful act.
Steven Oliver and Melissa Barajas knew each other, but they were not close. Steven Oliver wanted to be closer. Melissa didn’t. Steven Oliver claimed that Melissa Barajas, who is recently estranged from her husband, stabbed herself over and over. He says he saw her do it. He says he didn’t kill her. The evidence tells a different story. Melissa Barajas was killed in a manner most violent. Her killer tried to hide what he had done. But, he couldn’t.
A witness claims to have seen a man fitting Oliver’s description dragging something resembling a body down the street early that morning. Oliver admits that he was there when Barajas died. He admits to trying to clean up the mess. But, he wants the world to believe that Melissa Barajas did this to herself.
Melissa Barajas was from Houston. She leaves behind a six year-old son. Her family has set up a memorial fund at Wells Fargo to help pay for a funeral service. (I will place the contact information here as soon as I have it.)

Steven Oliver likes to call himself Stev-O. The last time he checked into his MySpace page was Wednesday, two days before he killed Melissa Barajas. His mood was set to "ninja." His profile, which is set to private, said (quite eerily) that he was
"thinking about a really cute girl ^^"

Oliver is also a member of hi5, though it appears his profile hasn’t been updated in a while.

So far, Oliver has only been charged with with tampering with evidence. He sits in the Fort Bend County jail on $500,000 bond.
