Samuel Hossin – Retired Teacher, Part-Time Child Pornographer
Samuel Hossin, 61, of S. 87th Ct. in Hickory Hills, Illinois, worked as a school teacher for Chicago Public Schools for 30 years. He retired in 2006. Until then, he had been teaching the sixth grade on Chicago’s south side. Hossin is listed at Zillow.com as a self-employed "Real Estate Professional." He signed up for the site in August of 2007. In August of 2008, police heard that Hossin might have illegal pornography in his possession. He was also said to have been distributing these images. It’s not clear if it was a professional endeavor, or if he was just sharing illicit pictures of children with like-minded individuals. Police have not stated who he was sharing his child porn with.
The Cook County Sheriff’s department executed a search warrant in September. At Hossin’s home, investigators confiscated several computers. A hard drive, which Hossin admitted held images of child pornography, was stashed behind a basement ceiling tile. Police also found a loaded .38-caliber gun. The illicit files discovered on Hossin’s computers contained images of children younger than 13 years old –just like the kids he taught. Investigators say that there is no evidence to suggest Hossin had any physical contact with children. The thought that this man was in a situation of trust with young children is frightening nonetheless.
Samuel Hossin has been charged with aggravated possession and aggravated dissemination of child pornography. Officials with Chicago Public Schools are cooperating with authorities. Hossin was released from jail after posting a $400,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on November 14
All too often we hear about men and women that have proven to be less than trustworthy in situations where they are trusted with young children and minors While it would be unfair and untrue to say that anyone who works with children has ulterior motives, it cannot be denied that predators seek these jobs. We need to provide some kind of oversight to protect our children from men and women who seek employment with young children. Many of the agencies that are supposed to look out for our children are also plagued with corruption, irresponsibility, and sometimes even predators themselves. Changes have to be made. The cost to our children is too high.
