Sabrina Matthews – Murdered in Her Own Bed
A horrible crime has been committed. People want to know why. But, most importantly –they want to know who. Who could kill this innocent child? Who could be so cold-blooded and brutal to a little girl?
Sabrina Matthews attended Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village. She was in the ninth grade. Sabrina was pretty and shy –and very intelligent. Her nickname was "Brains." She was always studying and learning. Her friends said she was a normal teenager. She talked about boys with her other girls her age. She was considered respectful, helpful, and "sweet." Sabrina wasn’t one to be getting into trouble.
It was Sunday, November 9. Her mother thought that Sabrina was asleep in her room that morning. She left to go to work. Sabrina’s father reportedly came home a little bit after 1:00 PM. (Reports of approximate time differ) He walked into Sabrina’s room. There, lying on her bed, was Sabrina. She wasn’t sleeping. What Sabrina’s father saw yesterday was a nightmare for any loving parent. Sabrina was naked from the waist down. Blood was pouring from her throat, which had been slashed. Sabrina Matthews had been killed in a manner most savage. Her father called the police before running next door to tell a neighbor. Paramedics showed up, but it was too late. Sabrina’s mother would arrive a few minutes later. She collapsed at the tragic news. Something this horrible and shocking was just too much for any mother to take.
The Matthew’s had moved from Brooklyn, New York to their home at 234th St. in Cambria Heights in Queens a few years ago. Police said there had been three domestic incident reported from the home. One such incident reported the father, 51 year-old Livingston Matthews, and an older daughter were involved in a heated, verbal confrontation. Child welfare agencies were never called in to investigate the family. Sabrina’s father went to the 105th Precinct station after the murder of his daughter and was questioned. Sabrina’s mother works in home health care. Sabrina’s father is a driver for the Administration for Children’s Services in New York City. According to the New York Daily News, an 18 year-old friend of Sabrina’s, Laquan Jones, said that Sabrina used to hang with a rough crowd. "She promised me she was done with all those guys." he said.
Police have not said if there was any evidence of sexual abuse, though Sabrina was found unclothed. It was very clear that someone had cut her throat. An autopsy will be performed for more answers. At this time, there are no suspects.
