Ashley Renee Flores used to be a math teacher at Ponca City East middle School. She no longer teaches, because she hooked up with a 14 year-old kid. You would think a math teacher could do a little math before picking a child for a boyfriend.  I guess arithmetic sometimes only works in theory. She taught remedial math, by the way. Irony, anyone? She must not have paid attention in class when they taught the difference between “adolescent” and “adult”. When word got out about Flores relationship with a 14 year-old boy last July, she suddenly resigned from her position. Apparently, Ponca City Schools also had a little trouble putting two and two together, because everybody else knew what had went down as they seemingly remained oblivious. Flores has admitted that she had illicit sex with the child while her own children were present.  She’s a teacher and a mom. Someone should give her a bad apple. She also told her victim to lie to his parents about their activities.

At Flores initial court appearance, one of Flores’ family members expressed his anger that the media was present. Maybe Ms. Flores can teach him a lesson about the First Amendment. Flores has been charged with felony second degree rape and oral sodomy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She will appear in court again in January.

Since this is a woman accused in this case, instead of a man, the double standard is again in play. You will see news agencies refer to the perverse situation as “an inappropriate relationship,” or some other lighter term than “rape” or molestation.” Grown men will giggle and make jokes about the boy’s “luck.” It never occurs to them that they aren’t fourteen anymore –or maybe they wish they were. People will act as if this all being blown out of proportion. They don’t think about the psychological damage that something like this can cause. This is so wrong. The women that prey on children are just as evil and manipulative as the men. It’s time to accept this as a fact and make some changes in how some women are perceived in the justice system.
