Do the kids come first? It doesn’t look that way in Queens, New York. Alan Goodman, 43, was a science teacher of kids in the third and sixth grades at Public School 160 in Jamaica. Seven months ago, he was caught soliciting an undercover cop he thought was a prostitute. The Department of Education wouldn’t say whether or not that arrest was ever known by his employers.

Goodman was charged with keeping child pornography on his home computer on September 22. Goodman pled not guilty. He was released on $200,000 bond yesterday and told to stay away from children. Police had found illicit video of young girls on Goodman’s computer –some of whom were as young as his students at Walter F. Bishop Elementary School. Goodman’s name was found on a list of subscribers to child pornograghy website.  Apparently, Goodman still has a job with the school. He was reassigned to non-classroom duties. I don’t know if this is a teacher’s union thing or just a nervous school district. I do know that common sense says that this man should not be anywhere near a school, unless and until he is cleared of these charges. The safety of children should come first.
