FBI Gets Jack Tarrance’s Teeth As Investigation Expands

TeethAccording to a Sacramento, California television station,  letters and envelopes sent by Jack Tarrance are being investigated by the FBI. The FBI is looking for a DNA connection between Jack Tarrance and the Zodiac Killer. Dennis Kaufman, the man prompting this investigation, has also recently submitted a knife and a hood to the FBI. Dennis believes the hood may have been worn by Tarrance and could possibly be the hood used by the killer at Lake Berryessa.

Tarrance died two years ago. Jack Tarrance was cremated after his death. Dennis has been trying to convince authorities his stepdad was the Zodiac Killer for the last eight years. Knowing the importance of DNA evidence in proving a murder case, it makes one wonder why wasn’t Dennis more proactive in obtaining this type of evidence? All hope is not lost, however, as the FBI obtained Tarrance’s dentures from one of his biological sons who lives in the state of Washington.

People have been following this case for decades, wondering if the world will ever know who the killer really was. Many are expecting conclusive answers from the FBI regarding this new evidence. A few doubt that anything conclusive will come about at all. Inconclusiveness and vague answers are what we have come to expect in many cold case investigations. Many suspects have been ruled out of the Zodiac case.

Many researchers, myself included, doubt the significance of DNA evidence in ruling out suspects in the Zodiac case. Don’t get me wrong –I believe in DNA evidence. It is a great and powerful tool in solving crimes. But this is only true if it is used properly. If the DNA in the Zodiac case matches that would be great–I mean Wow! That would be a connection. But if it doesn’t match, is that final? For all that is known, these samples that were obtained in the late 1960s might not even be from the Zodiac killer.

I do hope the FBI comes to a decisive conclusion regarding this evidence. I’ll be surprised if it does. I’ll be even more surprised if Jack Tarrance is the Zodiac Killer. Of course, if Tarrance is ever ruled out conclusively as a Zodiac suspect, Dennis can always fall back on the claim that his stepfather was the Moonlight Murderer of Texarkana.
