Suspicious Death in Healdton, Oklahoma May Be Homicide
A 39 year-old Healdton woman died this weekend, and her death just might be the result of a homicide. According to KTEN.com, neighbors heard scuffling and the boyfriend screaming at the woman Saturday night. Hours later police found the woman unconscious and bleeding. The woman (unidentified at this time) later died at the hospital from trauma to her head.
A local man claims that the boyfriend had held him at gunpoint recently and feels that the man could be responsible for the woman’s death. Police are still investigating the death of the woman, but there is an “unofficial” cloud of suspicion hanging over the boyfriend. the Carter County DA, Craig Ladd, has said the death is suspicious.
The small Oklahoma town of Healdton (population 2806) is no stranger to homicide and “suspicious” deaths.
Roy Gene Bassett recently pled guilty to dumping the body of 26 year-old Brandi Baird at an oilfield lease. He will not be prosecuted for her death because medical examiners could not determine how she died. Bassett will be sentenced September 11, 2008.
There is also the unsolved case of Robert Austin Owens. Owens, 21, was found dead on February 4, 199121 in the living room of his family’s home. He had been shot once in the right chest area, however, the Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head. The gun was found beside him. The house had been ransacked. Four .22 caliber rifles were stolen from the home. This case appears on the OSBI website.
