Michelle Lea (Mooneyham) Davis is still missing. She has been missing since August 7, 2008. Her mother is worried. She says Michelle, 31, would never have left her children and would not have stopped contacting her. There is little information on this case, and most is being heard in the form of rumors –and we all know that rumors can be extremely unreliable.
Michelle left work in Tulsa, Oklahoma on that night of August 7 and she hasn’t been seen since. Her car was located on Highway 62 about two miles east of her home in Paden, Oklahoma. Michelle’s husband of eight years, Benny Davis, found the car and contacted authorities. The car had a flat tire on the right front, the doors were locked and the hazard lights were flashing. Some clothing and other items were also found. Her keys were not there. Davis’ MySpace page was logged into on August 7, the date of her disappearance. There was no further login until the August 14 –and the page was logged into even today. Whether the login was performed by Michelle herself, her family, friends, or authorities investigating her disappearance is not known, at least to the public. Authorities have said they believe foul play may have played a role in her disappearance.
I have posted before regarding the hostility that continues to surface in this case. You can see it on forums where Michelle’s disappearance is the topic of discussion. In my view, the majority of the hostility is emanating from people who claim to be family of Michelle’s husband. The hostility seems to be aimed either at Michelle directly, or those who believe that Michelle may be in danger or may have met with foul play. That being said, it cannot be denied that the arrows of contempt are flying both ways –at least online.
Some are even questioning tomorrow night’s vigil for Michelle, claiming that it is being held for some type of ulterior motive. I think this suspicion is ludicrous. A woman is missing, her mother is worried, and she wants to encourage community support in finding Michelle. What is so wrong with that? That is what a vigil is for, to watch for someone’s return.
For all I know, Michelle may be alive and well. She may be in hiding somewhere trying to escape a life that she no longer feels comfortable in. If she is, she needs to let people know so that the efforts and emotions of the community won’t be wasted in vain.
But… There also exists the very real possibility that Michelle may have met with some type of foul play. In this case, people need to be looking for her. They need to find her before harm comes to her. in the worst case scenario, they need to find the persons responsible for her death.
There are some who very much want to shut off the community interest like a switch. I find this mindset questionable. While there is a great deal of useless and, I admit, even ridiculous speculation, I am glad to see a lot of concerned people doing what they can to help resolve this situation. That is human nature. That is what people do. We live in America where we are free to do just that without being silenced by those who disagree. We don’t to see this case go cold. We want answers. People should be glad for the attention –there are many missing people that just don’t have it.
KWTV Channel 9, out of Oklahoma City, has reported that a note was found. The contents of that note have not been released. There are rumors (for what they are worth) that the note says that Michelle has been kidnapped and that the abductors plan to kill her. According to the rumors, the “kidnappers” allowed Michelle to make a makeshift will with instructions on how to distribute her possessions. The note was allegedly found by Michelle’s father-in-law. No one claims to have seen the note delivered. Once again, all that CrimeShadows News can say for sure at this time is that a note was found.
Hopefully, this mystery will see a resolution very soon. Though it may mean that Michelle has taken us for a ride, I hope that she is indeed safe somewhere. I hope very much that she is found alive. If she is in the wrong, she can still do her best to make things right. Regardless of what has happened to Michelle, she needs to be found. People need to know.
Two MySpace pages have been created to spread the word about Michelle.
