Unsolved Homicide – Denise Stice

SticeThe body of Denise F. Stice was discovered at approximately 9:30 a.m. on November 27, 2007. Her body was found by a church group at a park on the south side of Lake Overholser, west of the dam, a few feet from the water. The body appeared to have been deposited there to conceal evidence associated with her homicide. The state medical examiner said that Stice, 48, died of a gunshot wound to the head. There are no suspects in this slaying. Stice’s vehicle was found a short time after her body was found.

Denise Stice’s husband reported his wife missing when she did not show up to work at Tinker’s Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center. Mrs. Stice worked there as director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization. Stice had worked at Tinker Air Force Base since 1999.

If you have any information about this homicide, please call Oklahoma City CrimeStoppers at (405) 235-7300.

Please excuse my typos. We were on our way to mass earlier. My girl is from OK City. Denise has some big-time friends. Oklahoma City will become a very small place to hide in. The fact that she was a government worker is all anybody needs to know. You can run but you cannot hide. Justice delayed isn't justice denied. That's what Rooster said. DNA matching is going to trip you up sooner or later. RIP Denise

My girlfriend at the time and her three kids and I went on a car trip to Dallas back in July of 2001. We decideed to go see a friend of her family's in Stigler OK. On the way u there I got to see lake McAlester and the other Sites. It is beautiful country. I cracked up (laughed) when I saw a "Boy Howdy" store for the first time. I ended up putting a new waterpump in the car the next day. Won't forget it. It was a hundred and ten degrees.

We left there and went to Muskogee. Sorry, no big deal there. Heading up to Tulsa was grand. OK is very pretty. We had a sandwich lunch there. Tulsa looks like a small San Antonio. A friend of mine and her husband live there. We didn't have time to contact them. The ride from Tulsa to OK city was straight and flat. I had never seen warning signs about smoke and fire on the highway. This was the part of the ride that I paid close attention to the teperature gauge. Everytime we passed a state trooper they would look at us and probably wonder how we all fit in the little Pontiac! We just smiled and waved.
Arriving in OK City, it was 114 degrees. We were all saying "boy howdy" by then. The people at the Ag building were super friendly and let us come in and use the restroom even though it was after five. I wanted to visit the OK city National Monument. We were stunned. It had seemed like it had happened only yesterday. We strolled around and took pictures.
I was at home the day of the bombing. I was watching TV and it flashed on the screen. A lady from The TDHS came to see my mother and as she came in, I told her that an explosion had occured in OK City and many people were injured or dead. It was dreadful. Being there years later only brought sorrow for the victims. The toys on the fence was almost too much to bear and maintain one's composure.
We made it back to Denton in time to buy the Lotto. No luck. The Walmart in Denton had picnic tables in front and it has a nice view. One more night in Dallas and we were
    on our way home.
In September of that year, I was driving to work as usual and got there as was asked if I had heard about the "Twin Towers"? Are thhey okay I asked? What's left of them. was the answer. Then I saw the video: the planes, impact, and destruction. I told everyone to buy gas on their way home and not to go to the malls or movies. Terrorists want to target what they call western decadence. In a matter of three months we had experienced (seen) terrorism at its worse.
Last Summer, my new girlfriend and I (my old one didn't love me anymore) went back to OKC to create new memories (she's originally from the coincidently). The Memorial is the way I remember it and still sad. I wanted to go see Lake Overholser to see where my frind Denise was found dead but it got late that evening. We drove west almost out of town and ended up at a Wendy's for a burger and choclate frosty. Ah, the good-life. The young lady who took our order was absolutely beautiful. Tall, porcelin complected, and angelic faced. My girl and I looked at one another and just smiled as if we were seeing art in action. "Isn't she beautiful" she asked? I said, adorable.
I got to thinking about Denise again and how close we were to the lake. I was taking a peek toward the front just to get a glimpse of our server when I realized something. The low down dirty coward that murdered my friend could do the same to our little server who is not aware that he (or his accomplices) is still at large. It is a strange feeling when you know just what awaits our young folks outside of your protection. You trust in God and hope for the best. You warn them about Timothy Mcveighs, Charles Mansons, and Boston Stranglers. You hate to see them go away knowing they may not return. When something really bad does happen, you hope that the culprit(s) are caught, tried and, convicted. We know where Tim is, Charley, and De Salvo are. We don't know where Denise' killer(s) is. I wanted us to escort our little Wendy girl home ourselves to ensure that at least that night she would make it home. I started to think like the Dad in the movie "Taken".
I decided not to go to the lake where she was found. It was too sad a prospect. We split back to the room and prepared to go back to Dallas. Oklahoma is beautiful. Unfortunately too many bad things have happened there. For some of us here, and I'm sure there as well, our Timothy Mcveigh is still at large. He is probably laughing at how he has gotten away with the torture and sebsequent assasination of a beautiful, intelligent, well educated, and substantially employed lady that was loved by so many.
We pray that this beast(s) doesn't go into the Wendy's west of the lake and sets his eyes on our little angel. We have heard that "Oklahoma takes care of their own." I want to believe this. Please watch over her. We want to see her again this Summer while she is working there to graduate from college.
I still think more is going on at Kelly than at Tinker. Keep your families and friends safe. And to her killer: "The eyes of Texas are upon you"...Sung really loud like at the game.

It's time for a "Dateline" show on her homicide. Who are the players and what do they know? She was no small fry in the Civil Service, was she?
  • Richard, I am a civil service worker @ Tinker. I am deeply troubled that we still don't have an arrest in this case. I recently posted a Facebook group in hopes it will generate information for Law Enforcement. As you mentioned in your post, someone has information about her murder. If you have any information about this homicide, please call Oklahoma City CrimeStoppers at (405) 235-7300.

    And we wait some more.

We need justice in this case. Her family, coworkers and friends are waiting.......

It sounds as if her husband had a dual life. I knew Denise from 9-71 thru 5-77. I spoke to her at the 10 and 20 year reunions. One of my degrees is in CRJ. She didn't show any signs of drug abuse or physical abuse. Whoever beat her and shot her could only be in a blinding rage or higher than a kite. On one website an individual speculated that Denise may have had an affair with her husband dicovering it and reacting. Some secrets are sacred. What if her husband had an affair that she discovered and he would not have wanted anyone to know about for fear of embarassment? What if she was just a victim of circumstance and any of his history is pruely coincidental? Her killer or killers had an ax to grind. I wish Denise would have had a license to carry (CHL) and would have had at least a Walther PPK or Lady Smith to defend herself. She suffered before she died. I hope her murderer(s) are apprehended, tried, and convicted for that reason alone. Bexar County, Texas would love to hold the culprit(s) for trial. Heaven knows Denise Tucker. We wait.

I've left a similar post on another website. Even though I didn't know Denise, we had some friends in common. I'm also a federal employee so I feel a kinship to her. I live in a different state so it's difficult to keep up with what is going on. But, yesterday I just started doing some research on Google. I didn't know Denise's husband who goes by Don Stice is actually Gerald D. Stice. He has a criminal record...served time for sexual battery for four years in an Oklahoma Correctional facility. He is a sex offender. He has also been arrested for possession of controlled substance. Has he been cleared of any wrongdoing in this case? Just rather odd that the murderer has not been found.

San Antonio, Texas has its share of crime. We also have some unsovled crimes (murder) as well. Nobody shoots a woman in her head and dumps her in a lake in San Antonio and our city just waits around. Families and friends periodically turn in criminals they are related to and friends with to the Police. Nobody here feels safe (for themselves or their families and friends) when a criminal(s) capable of doing what was done to Denise is lurking in a free society with impunity. The person who did this to Denise could do this to you and anybody you know. We know this in San Antonio. If you know who did it, stop them from doing something worse to you or somebody you know. Call or send a note to authorities. Denise would have done this for you or me. Do not be afraid. I wish I could post a picture of her here from our 20 year reunion. She was wonderful person that would walk up to you with a smile and ask you how you have been? Don't turn you back on her. Do what you believe is right for you, your family, and friends. I do. Orale, now act.
  • Someone who cares
Denise is a part of my everyday thoughts and memories, we just want to see the person who killed her held accountable for taking her life! Maybe this will comfort others, it has me, the Lord knows who killed her, her killer cannot hide or escape from our God.
  • Gail
I still think of Denise almost daily and just can't understand why no progress has been made. It is my understanding that much of the evidence is telling, but no answers????? Those of us that loved her want answers. Denise was a bright and talented young lady and her family deserves answers.
  • Someone who cares
There is someone out there who knows lots of information about Denise' murder, why does it appear that nothing is being done and everyone is so closed mouth about her case, there was tons of evidence and still no arrests! Every one in Oklahoma and Texas would like a response and an arrest! Someone who cares
  • Richard Soto
Denise (Tucker) Stice was a person I have known since Jr. High. I'm glad to have known her in my lifetime. I am hoping that somebody will find it in their heart to come forward and help law enforcement solve the crime that took her from many people who knew and loved her. San Antonio, Texas is waiting for your response. Thank you, Richard Soto
