Waylon Dale Ball of Stigler, Oklahoma is a Level Three Sex Offender (Aggravated Circumstances.) This convicted rapist has a current profile on MySpace.com that we are seeking to be removed.

In 2000, Ball was convicted of first degree rape in LeFlore County, Oklahoma. In 2006, he was convicted of 2 counts of assault & battery upon a police officer, 2 counts of lewd exhibition of a person, and one count of indecent exposure in Haskell County. He is on the Oklahoma Sex Offender Registry for life. While his official record indicates that Ball is a non-habitual offender, I would like to note that in both 2000 and 2006 he was arrested for crimes of a sexual nature. Should an offender of this caliber be allowed on a social networking site like MySpace? CrimeShadows News doesn't think so. What do you think?

We're going to be doing something a little different here at CrimeShadows News. Sex offenders just won't stay off the places they shouldn't be –the places law-abiding citizens don't want to them to be. So, we're going to take a proactive stance in the fight against sex offenders on the Internet.

CrimeShadows News will be actively hunting down registered sex offenders who are using social networking sites. Places like MySpace, Facebook, Wayn, Multiply, Friendster, and the like have been the hunting grounds of sex offenders. Now, they will be our hunting ground as we track them down and work to get their accounts deleted and their online activity halted. We will contact law enforcement in cases where sex offenders have been prohibited by law from Internet use.

You can help, too. Anywhere you see a known, registered sex offender on a social networking site, contact the site and let them know. If you need help, you can contact CrimeShadows News using the contact form at the top of this page. Please provide the link to the profile, the name of the offender, and the county and state where he/she is registered. We'll be glad see that they are removed and attention is brought to their attempts to socialize with those they might harm.

In the future, when you see a post labeled "CSN Smackdown", you will know that we have found a predator who is using a social networking site. We believe social networking sites should be free from known sex offenders. These people are registered for a reason. They are a danger to society and a risk to the well-being of our children. We don't need them. Let's clean up our social networking sites and make them safer for us and our children.

February 12 will mark six years to the day that 28-year-old Joy Hayward was brutally murdered at the Days Inn Hotel in Chester, Pennsylvania. On February 11, Hayward had checked into the hotel after an argument with her boyfriend. According to the desk clerk, a black male followed Hayward into the elevator. Hayward called the front desk after she got to her room, which was on the sixth floor. She told the desk clerk she needed help –then the line went dead. The desk clerk did nothing in response to her pleas.

The next day, February 12 at around 4:00 PM, a maintenance man found Hayward's body in the bathtub of her hotel room. Someone had strangled her to death.

DNA extracted from the scene of the crime indicated the killer was a black male. The murderer apparently had taken Hayward's cell phone. Hayward's sister called the phone on the night of the 12th. A male voice answered the phone! He quickly hung up. The phone was never found.

Cpl. Jennifer Crews-Carey, an Annapolis, MD police spokesman and close friend of Joy Hayward’s sisters since their school days, has set up Facebook group dedicated to finding Joy Hayward’s killer.

The suspect is described as a black male in his thirties. The sketch provided is a composite drawing of the suspect.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has obtained still photographs of surveillance video from the Sheridan Road Wal-Mart in Lawton, Oklahoma. The photos, taken at approximately 5:15 PM, show Lester Hobbs and his estranged wife, Tonya Leann Hobbs, who was murdered only a few hours after the video was captured. Lester Hobbs beat Tonya to death inside his RV in Geronimo, Oklahoma. He is now a fugitive from justice, having been charged with murder. As if things couldn't be worse, Hobbs also abducted Tonya's seven-year-old daughter, Aja Johnson. Hobbs is not the girl's father. Tonya Hobbs' car is also shown in the photos.

Yesterday afternoon (January 26) a warrant for first degree murder and kidnapping was issued for Lester Hobbs for the murder of Tonya Hobbs and the kidnapping of her daughter. Tonya Hobbs was killed by blunt force trauma. The child was taken by Lester Hobbs and is in serious danger.

Tonya and Lester Hobbs were separated. Tonya was living in Oklahoma City, but had taken her kids to see Hobbs because he had a court date for a DUI charge that Hobbs believed would send him back to prison. He wanted to see the kids one last time. Tonya complied, even though she had filed protective orders against him in the past, even though he threatened her life and the life of her children, even though she told the girl's father that she was only taking the child to a birthday party, and even though she only had supervised visitation rights. She took a big chance with her life and with the life of her children. She lost her own chance and paid with her life. We can only hope that Aja Johnson will survive her abduction by this low-life criminal who holds her fate in his hands.

Lester Hobbs is described as a 47-year-old white male with brown hair and green eyes. His hairline is receding and he has multiple tattoos, some of which are on his fingers, hand, and wrist. He is reportedly around 5'9" to 6'1" tall and weighs about 180 lbs.  He may have a moustache. The photo to the left may show the clothing that Hobbs is wearing now.

Hobbs may be driving a 1992 white Toyota Paseo with license plate number 577-BPW. The rear window of the vehicle has been replaced with some sort of gray material. The car belonged to Tonya. It is the car she drove down to visit him in.

Investigators say Lester Hobbs has relatives in Kern County, California and may be heading there. Hobbs has relatives in Davenport, where the couple lived before they separated. He also has relatives in Texas and Oregon.

The Virginia State Police has jurisdiction over four of the homicides referred to as the Colonial Parkway murders. The agency has vowed to submit the evidence they have, now some 20 years old, to new technology. Previously, the Virginia State Police kept putting off the move, saying they couldn't be spending money on cold cases. They continued their resistance even thought the FBI vowed to renew their investigation (after being publicly embarrassed over photos leaked in the case.) Now, they're changing their tune. If they come through, that is great. Everyone deserves Justice -not just those in the latest headlines.

A representative of the Phelps family has informed CrimeShadows News that they met with Special Agent James "Doc" Lyons and Captain Timothy Evans of the Virginia State Police, Richmond Division. The family was pleased with the meeting. The agency will be submitting evidence within the next few weeks. There are over 90 pieces of evidence in the case of Annamaria Phelps. Fingerprints will be checked through AFIS, the national fingerprint and criminal identity database. DNA evidence will also be submitted. Results may take up to 9 months to a year. The Phelps family is happy to finally have someone in law enforcement to listen to their concerns. They are happy the case is moving forward and hope for a resolution.

"We want justice but this is not just for us but for Anna. A break in our case could me a break for everyone."
