It pains me deeply to know that there are people out there who can bring harm to an innocent child. Neica Marie Gibbs, the beautiful little girl you see in the photo, was found murdered (though police are still unsure) and wrapped in a tarp. Her decomposing body was dumped in front of a garbage dumpster. Her body was found by a woman picking up litter around the trash receptacle.

”We need to determine if this is an actual homicide. It’s still early in our investigation” said Sgt. Frank Sousa, a spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. An autopsy is scheduled. Police say her disappearance was an active investigation. She was found in the 2700 block of Southwest Sixth Drive in Fort Lauderdale, only steps away from a trailer where she was to have attended a sleepover with a friend three weeks ago.

Police did not issue an AMBER Alert when little Neica was reported missing three weeks ago, because she didn’t meet all the criteria for the alert, according to Sousa. Those criteria, according the Amber Alert government website, are as follows.

• There is reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred.
• The law enforcement agency believes that the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.
• There is enough descriptive information about the victim and the abduction for law enforcement to issue an AMBER Alert to assist in the recovery of the child.
• The abduction is of a child aged 17 years or younger.
• The child’s name and other critical data elements, including the Child Abduction flag, have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.

Unless you can prove your child was abducted, AMBER Alert is off limits. Don’t get me wrong –I’m glad we have AMBER Alert. I know that every child that goes missing is not necessarily at risk and that listing all of them could lead to a “cry wolf” type situation. I’m not knocking the police, either. I have no idea how hard they worked in searching for this girl. I do know she was wrapped in a blue tarp in the same area she went missing from. Sort of like looking for your keys when their right in your pocket. I can’t help but feel for those who fall through the cracks. Then again, with the evil and apathy that lurks within our communities, it may be that Neica would have been doomed regardless.

I don’t think Neica wrapped herself up in that tarp and died on her own. Her death may have been accidental -we don’t really know, but I highly doubt it. The likelihood of what happened is an all too familiar story. Women and little girls and boys are disposable to the perverted predators that weave themselves within our cities. I wouldn’t be surprised if the person responsible for her death is already a known sex offender. I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

Body Of 13-Year-Old Found Behind Dumpster Identified

David Heath Potts, a Little Rock, Arkansas man required to register as a sex offender has skipped his court appearance. He failed register as a sex offender. He’s also wanted for theft of property.

Police say that Potts isn’t dangerous. Maybe he isn’t dangerous to them, but the state of Arkansas has classified him as a level three sex offender. His crime has proven him to pose the highest level of risk to the public. He was convicted of first degree sexual abuse.

A warrant was issued for his arrest on July 19.

Released on July 1: John G Beshirs, DOB February 5, 1948

Convicted in Bryan County, Oklahoma with of Lewd Molestation in 1988. In 1993, he was convicted of Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. Then, in 2000, he was convicted of Indecent Exposure.

He is classified as a habitual sex offender.

Convicted in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma with: Thirteen counts of Rape in the First Degree. Two counts of indecent or lewd Acts with a child under sixteen years of age.

Sentenced on June 2, 1994 to 35 years in prison. Released after serving less than half of his original sentence.

Convicted in Crisp County, Georgia in 2004 of Child Molestation

The above list is by no means all inclusive –and is not even “the worst of the worst.” It is, however, a sampling of what is being let loose into society on a regular basis.

As a new feature to CrimeShadows News, each month I will let the public know about a few of the sex offenders that are currently being released. Of course, this feature will not be all inclusive, as the number of perverts being let back into American society is quite staggering. This blog will show the monthly releases of known predators from all over the USA.

You will learn about those disgusting deviates who have done the crime, but don’t have to serve the time. Since there aren’t children to rape in prison, these convicts can be pretty well behaved, at least enough to earn their release. We know that child molesters cannot be rehabilitated, yet they end up walking free and targeting our children, despite having been arrested and sentenced to incarceration by a jury.

These sentences are often usurped by members of a pardon and parole board created to prevent overcrowding of prisons. So, since the prisons are overcrowded, the overflow ends up with the rest of society. But, there are so many of these predators walking free that overcrowding has become an issue, even on the outside. We don’t want them around our children, so they band together to oppose legislation that aims to keep kids out of their reach.

I fully support the death penalty for sex offenders that continue to victimize children. This will help make the world a safer place, reduce prison populations, and put the fiends out of their (and our) misery. At the very least, we should keep them locked up. But we don’t. They walk among us. They often fail to register, so they can prey undetected. They continue looking for opportunities to offend again.

You may be surprised to learn just how many of these men and women are being let back into society each month. When you hear about the crimes they have committed, you may wonder why they were even considered for release. The sad thing is that, not only are they considered, they are actually allowed to bypass the justice that their victims, the judges, the prosecutors, and the juries have worked hard to obtain.

My only hope is that the convicted sex offenders that are featured in this new series do not offend again. In reality, I think we all know better than to believe that that they will magically become decent, law abiding citizens.

I just noticed a lot of visits to this blog within the last few hours by people looking for more information on the Weleetka case. I was hopeful that the surge meant breaking news. I immediately checked the news to see if there had been any developments in solving the double-homicide. There were several new articles relating to the story, but I was disappointed to see the “news” was just a reheated story from last week.

Someone had scrawled a message onto a cross at the roadside memorial for Skyla Whitaker and Taylor Paschal-Placker. The message was discovered a month after the two little girls were mysterious shot to death in Okfuskee county, near Weleetka, Oklahoma. The words said “You’ll never catch me!” or perhaps something similar.

There have been no major developments in this case since a sketch was released of a possible person of interest. This evil taunt is likely just someone’s idea of humor, and investigators regard it as just that. In this day and age, anonymity allows people to say the cruelest things, usually with no consequences. Some wanker was probably bored with his Internet griefing and sought to create a little excitement at the expense of two murdered girls. While I hope whoever did write this stupid message is discovered, I don’t think that speculating it’s some sort of communication from the actual killer will be very productive.

Of course, there are those who like to imagine the sensational, such as those that think that Megan Touma’s killer marks the return of the Zodiac, or a copycat. It is still unknown who killed those two little girls. The person (or persons) that committed this unthinkable crime are evil, no doubt. They are beyond contempt and disgust. Those that try to garner some twisted entertainment value out of this tragedy may unwittingly be in league with the depraved miscreant that carved the message on that cross. The person that wrote that message wants to stir people up and get them talking, but not in a productive way –in a way that detracts from the real crime and invents a delusion. The killer must be found, but playing to the whims of this instigator may only create more confusion and rumor in a case already outside the grasp of comprehension.

Updated: Man identified as Ronnie Raymond Barrett.

Two masked men approached a 41 year-old Sand Springs man and his wife on Briarcliff Road, just of Highway 97, at 10:45PM last night. The men told the couple to lie on the ground. Apparently there was a struggle between the three men. The man was shot in the head. The woman was not harmed. The men took off in the couple’s pick-up truck.

At around 7:00 this morning , the Osage County Sheriff’s Department recovered the pick-up stolen by the men in a parking lot at the Apple Creek apartment complex near U.S. 412 and 129th W. Ave Avenue. It had been located by the man’s brother.

The wife says she had never seen the masked men before. She said they shot her husband twice in the back of the head. OHP Troopers and Osage County Deputies are on the look-out for the two men. There is no description of the men at this time. The victim’s name has not been released.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal has provided a little more information about Dr. (hopefully, soon to be Mr.) Jerrold Ecklind’s adventure last week. In case you haven’t heard of Ecklind, he’s the deranged Doc who was arrested back in April for impersonating a police officer and false imprisonment. He had interrupted an argument and took off with the female half of the altercation in handcuffs. He had pointed a gun at the man involved, saying he was “the police.”

This flaky physician, who, as of this writing, still retains the title of “Doctor,” was arrested again last week. This time he was apparently under the influence of his own medicine. Police found Xanax and morphine in his possession, hidden in a flashlight holder and a glass case, respectively. Ecklind refused a urine test, probably because he was so blasted out of his mind he had put his boots on the wrong feet. Ecklind couldn’t explain the childish mistake, saying he didn’t put them on. He only remembered that his boots felt “big.”

Ecklind couldn’t pass the field sobriety tests. He couldn’t stand on one foot. He couldn’t walk a straight line (how metaphoric). He passed a breath test, indicating he hadn’t been drinking, but it was very clear he was under the influence of something. The photo’s shown were taken at his arrests. The one on the left is from April. The one on the right is from last week.

It is official: Jerrold Ecklind is NOT, I repeat, NOT a suspect in the Daytona Beach serial killings –at least not anymore. His DNA, volunteered willingly, does not match DNA found at the crime scene(s). However, no mention has been made of Ecklind’s resemblance to a Smyrna Beach sexual assault suspect. (See the sketch.) The man in the sketch is wanted for kidnapping a 26 year-old woman at gunpoint and sexually assaulting her in a remote, wooded area near New Smyrna Beach. It might be interesting to know if the Ecklind’s owned a white van back then.

Ecklind may not be the Daytona Beach Serial Killer, the rapist in New Smyrna Beach, or the Big Bad Wolf. He is, however, proving to be a very dangerous individual. He should not be a doctor. This is plain to just about everyone. Yet, as of this writing, he’s still a licensed physician. The Florida Department of Health’s website shows no disciplinary action. In fact, it shows Ecklind still holds privileges as a physician at three area hospitals.

Back in April, Ecklind was found with two loaded guns in his car, and one in a holster on his person. He even pointed one of the guns at another man. Last week. Ecklind’s proclivity for firearms was displayed once again, as a Bushmaster M-16 was found in his car –along with a supply of ammo. He was armed and dangerous and wearing his boots on the wrong feet. He was spaced out of his mind as he sped through Daytona Beach with a carbine rifle in his car. Was he going hunting? Was he going to impersonate a S.W.A.T team? Make a house call? Provide someone with “end of life” care? Who knows what he was up to? The drugged up doc didn’t even know what he was doing. We’ve known since April that this guy is one pill short of a prescription, but here we are in July and he’s still a doctor, still collecting guns, and still cruising the streets of Daytona Beach. What is wrong with this picture? As Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said, “We are heading to a not-so-happy ending with this guy.” If you live in Daytona Beach, maybe an apple a day would do you some good.

Remember back in April when we first heard about Jerrold Ecklind, the Ormond Beach physician that pretended he was a cop? He had pointed a gun at the male half of an argument, and drove off with the female, who he told to put on handcuffs. Police found three loaded weapons strategically placed in his car. Authorities also investigated him in connection with the murders of four area women. CrimeShadows News found that Ecklind was a close match for a sketch of a suspect in a sexual assault in nearby Smyrna Beach. Since his arrest and subsequent release on bond, Ecklind has been keeping on the QT. Earlier reports had him checking out the blogs and reading the speculation concerning his being the Daytona Beach Serial Killer.

He might have been laying low for the duration, but this week he was certainly flying high. Now, the daffy doc is back in trouble again. It seems that Jerrold Ecklind, who is on a path to losing the revered and lucrative title of Doctor, has been taking advantage of his position to obtain drugs for recreational use. According to his arrest report, Ecklind was found in possession of Xanax and morphine yesterday, June 11. He was charged with driving under the influence. Police found Ecklind driving swerving his car near the intersection of Clyde Morris and Bill France Boulevards. At one point, his car left the road. He got right back on, speeding up to 65 miles mph in a 45 mph zone. When he got out of the car, his boots were on the wrong feet. The surgeon failed all of the field sobriety tests administered to him. Of course, Ecklind is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

According to MyFox Orlando, police found 14 Xanax pills in a flashlight holder and 22 morphine pills in an eyeglass case. A drug expert examined Ecklind and placed him under arrest. The Florida Department of Health said they are looking into the investigation.

One thing is now certain, Ecklind’s weirdness is not limited to an isolated and misunderstood incident, as he would have us believe. In the meantime, he’s still a doctor and surgeon with an active practice. Ecklind’s in a downhill spiral –that is very plain to see. Let’s hope no one gets hurt on his way to the bottom.

Those discussing the tragic case of the two Weleetka girls are noticing the resemblance between the POI sketch (above, left) and the photo of a Phoenix child molester(above, right) who has absconded parole. Some people have seen the similarity here at CrimeShadows News, as I did when I checked to see if my earlier blog post needing any editing. The photos, by coincidence, were placed almost side by side. I immediately began to look into the information available on Anthony Charles Fritz, the Phoenix pervert that cut loose from his GPS tracking device and disappeared from view. The main thing I, and many others, want to know is –is there a chance that this man could have been in Oklahoma on June 8?

The information available to the general public doesn’t seem to point definitively in either direction. One news article said that Fritz pled guilty June 12 to attempted sexual conduct with a minor. The article neglected to mention that the June 12 in question occurred 22 years ago. We know that Fritz absconded from probation on June 22 of this year after he freed himself from his GPS monitoring device. The warrant for his probation violation was issued the next day. Fritz’ family and associates have not been any help concerning his whereabouts. So, where was Anthony Fritz on June 8, when Skyla Whitaker and Taylor Paschal Placker were killed by an unknown attacker (or attackers)? It has been speculated that a sex offender may have killed the girls. There was no evidence of a sexual attack, but that doesn’t rule out the motive entirely.

On June 4, 2008, Fritz defense attorney gained Fritz’ release into probation by proving that the device necessary for his monitoring did not require a wired telephone, which Fritz did not have. He was to be monitored for drug and alcohol monitoring and he was to be monitored electronically via a GPS tracking device. It is my understanding that his release became official by order June 6.

Twenty days later, on June 24, the judge at his probation violation hearing found that Fritz had failed to submit to drug testing, failed to attend sex offender treatment (whatever that is), and he failed to attend the violation hearing. A bench warrant was issued for Fritz at the conclusion of that hearing.

Not a heck of a lot of information has been provided for Fritz whereabouts. What is important to note is that as of June 6 and thereafter, there is no record of Fritz making an appearance before the court. In fact, concerning Fritz the court was recessed between June 2 and June 24. Notice this: the date of June 24 didn’t come up because Fritz disappeared at that time. No, that date (June 24) had been scheduled back on June 2, as a continuation of the earlier hearing. Who was babysitting this predator between court dates? If his GPS tracking device remained active after it was removed, wouldn’t it have appeared that Fritz was not out of bounds until a court or probation official noticed that he had flown the coop? The police say Fritz secretly fled probation on June 22. Is that the time he was discovered missing? If the monitoring device was doing its job, how could it have been secret? Did the damage not alert anyone immediately? There is a decent amount of time that is not accounted for, at least as far as the public is concerned.

There are days where Fritz location is not known with certainty –and there are some questions to be answered. When did Fritz actually leave his probation? Where did he go? The greatest question, at this point in time is, where is Anthony Charles Fritz?

Anthony Charles Frits may not be the same man that killed those two little girls in Weleetka. He does resemble the POI sketch. In the Southwest, it is not that uncommon for many men to resemble the composite. They’re not all bad guys. However, Fritz did something desperate. Regardless of whether or not he is capable of murder, what we know he is capable of is frightening enough. Let’s hope he is found –and soon. Hopefully, he’ll never be released into society again. In the meantime, he’s out there somewhere and child molesters aren’t exactly known for changing their ways.

On June 12, 1986, Anthony Charles Fritz, pled guilty to Attempted Sexual Conduct with a Minor.

On March 26, 1993,Fritz pled guilty to Child Molestation and Attempted Child Molestation. This repeat offender was released from prison on March 23, 2007. On June 22 of this year, Fritz, on probation, cut loose from his tracking device and disappeared. On June 23 a probation violation was issued.
